Excellent tomato crops

During summer, Queensland can be a grower's nightmare... clear skies and high levels of radiation can cause crop stress and RH problems, particularly with small plants such as young tomatoes and cucumbers.

We measured the effect of light on plant temperatures. This was done in the DPI test houses at Redland Bay.

So, what were the challenges?

• High light levels
• High radiation
• Therefore high plant temperature variations
• Loss in productivity, increase in running expenses

And how did LS Climate Control overcome these problems?

By analysing and applying knowledge and experience, and using the best equipment for the job. We chose Svensson Screens, and attained excellent results.

We:

• Reduced the plant temperatures by up to 12ºC
• Increased nighttime plant temperatures by up to 6ºC
• Helped reduce 'dew drops' and the risk of disease
