If you have been following so far, you will start to see some similarities in all of the situations. That is, that the climate you are growing in is what you need control over in order to maximise your productivity as well as the quality of your crop.

So, what were the challenges?

• To reduce heating costs
• To reduce dew drop and disease levels
• To increase the temperature of the plants at night
• To balance the Relative Humidity (RH)
• To reduce the plant temperatures in summer
• To provide a better working environment

And how did LS Climate Control overcome these problems?

Again, we chose Svensson screens and used our knowledge to apply them to the problem. In different houses, the growers now have control over the light and shade, the temperature, and the humidity for each of their crops. This has maximised their production and minimised their costs.

The results:

• In summer, screens reduced plant temperatures by up to 12ºc
• Fruit quality and quantity much higher
• Screens elevated relative humidity to 75-85%, optimum level
• In winter screens kept the plants up to 6ºc warmer with less chance of disease
• Heating costs reduced by about 40%
